Positive summary of intensive exchange

Positive summary of intensive exchange
Fruitful discussions, a very high quality of visitors, a positive atmosphere – that’s the summary of exhibitors and organizers at the conclusion of the 8th AchemAsia. The more compact timeline of the International Exhibition-Congress in comparison to former events met the full approval especially of the exhibitors. „The time from Tuesday to Friday could be used even more intensively“, said Dr. Kurt Wagemann, Executive Director of Dechema.

With 413 exhibitors from 24 countries AchemAsia is the most international event for the process industry in China. In his welcoming address, Professor Cao Xianghong, Chairman of the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China (CIESC), underlined the importance of international exchange for the Chinese process industry especially this year when the impact of the financial crisis was still perceptible in China, too. In the mid- and long-term it would be essential to prepare for the shift of the resource base that would become necessary in the face of dwindling oil reserves. Professor Cao also gave an account of the challenges caused by limited water resources especially for coal conversion in regions with rich deposits. The Chairman of Dechema, Dr. Hans Jürgen Wernicke, also referred in his statement at the press conference to the necessity of a sustainable supply of energy and raw materials and underlined the contribution of the process industries in this context. He was very happy that the Chinese partners were giving priority to the same questions that were also moving Germany and the Western industrial nations.

Largest group of exhibitors came from China
With 190 exhibitors, China accounted for the largest group, followed by Germany (118), France (23) and the US (11). The exhibitors also commended the internationality of the visitors. Overall, the exhibition and congress attracted 12,453 visitors to the new China National Convention Center. Among the 89 lectures, the plenary lectures and the sessions on water treatment, clean energy and biorefinieries as well as the exhibitors‘ presentations were met with especially high interest.
Leading topic: Sustainability
Sustainability in energy generation and production were in general leading topics. These issues are also in the focus of China’s research and development efforts. A VIP meeting on water treatment offered an opportunity for intensive discussion and networking to about 25 professionals from all over the world. „We took a chance with a lot of innovations in this year’s event. This courage has paid off. Not only the changed timeframe, but also the new location close to the Olympic Park with its modern exhibition facilities and the enhanced integration of exhibition and congress have contributed to the success of this AchemAsia. We will certainly continue on this route“, Dr. Wagemann summed up.
The next Achema will take place from June 18th to 22nd, 2012 in Frankfurt. The next AchemAsia opens in spring 2013 in Beijing.
