Five columns and four heat exchangers in total – that’s the scope of the order the specialist for tank and apparatus construction from Kehl, H&K Behälter- und Edelstahltechnik GmbH, is going to complete. The stainless steel columns with a height between 16 and 31.5 m and a diameter of up to 110 cm are part of a rectifying plant for the extraction of drinking alcohol in Norway. With columns of such a height, special demands as regards stability and flange joints have to be fulfilled, and occurring wind loads have to be taken into consideration. Purchaser of the 400,000 Euro project is GEA Wiegand from Ettlingen, a plant construction company with worldwide activities for the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. The total process up to completion covered a period of 6 months.
