The coveted “Two Basels Innovation Prize” for 2006 has been awarded to Coperion Buss AG, Pratteln, Switzerland. With this award, the Basel City and Basel Land cantonal governments paid tribute to the development and successful market launch of quantec – an innovative high-performance kneader technology for plastics and powder coatings processing. Coperion Buss CEO Dr. Beat Sturzenegger received the prize from councillors Dr. Ralph Lewin and Erich Straumann, directors of the two cantonal departments of economy, in the presence of about 150 guests from the Basel City and Basel Land regions together with representatives of key customers and reputed scientific circles.
The quantec innovation arose from a completely new mathematical concept formulation leading to optimization possibilities that would hardly have been discovered otherwise. These optimizations, which apply to the entire machine, are most clearly evident in the enlarged intake zone and in the new fourflight screw design for improved material transport in the shear and kneading zones.
