BASF wants to considerably reduce emissions of greenhouse gases at the Ludwigshafen site. Through the installation of catalysts, nitrous oxide emitted by the adipic acid plant will be more efficiently converted into nitrogen and oxygen, which are natural elements of the atmosphere. “Through this project, greenhouse gas emissions at BASF’s headquarters site will be reduced by around 2 million metric tons of CO2 equivalents per year from 2010,” said Stefano Pigozzi, head of BASF’s Inorganics division. Last year, total greenhouse gas emissions at the site were 12.2 million metric tons of CO2 equivalents.
