Greater flexibility through modularity

Sieve mills for dry or wet applications

Greater flexibility through modularity
The ConiWitt design can be used for dry, wet or moist milling
A manufacturer of generic drugs operates a plant in which the ConiWitt- 150 sieve mill was integrated to deagglomerate and homogenise solids. However, since the manufacturer was also keen to use the plant for wet milling of powders, the search was on for a mill version that was suitable for both dry and wet milling. One of the customer’s major concerns was maintaining the pressure surge resistance certification of the ConiWitt-150 that was already installed. The company decided to use the ConiWitt-150W on account of its modularity.

The generic drug manufacturer was looking for a solution consisting of elements that were already available – and thanks to the modular concept of the ConiWitt conical sieve mill, Frewitt won the race by a nose. The ConiWitt has the advantage that the same design can be used for dry, wet or moist milling.

The ConiWitt-150 milling head for dry milling can be replaced with a larger ConiWitt-150W milling head for wet or moist milling simply by releasing the TriClamp connector. The sieve inserts can be used with either model. No adjustments are necessary other than changing the milling head. The larger milling chamber ensures that the sieved product flows freely and the product cannot accumulate between the wall of the housing and the sieve. Owing to the larger clearance, the ConiWitt-150W prevents bridge formation in moist and viscous products. An additional benefit of switching to a larger milling head is the increased flow rate.
The individual components of the modular Frewitt system can be combined in various ways, and standardised interfaces ensure stable and reliable integration into the process. This modularity also makes it possible to manipulate increasingly complex technology. Tailor-made solutions can likewise be implemented much more efficiently and economically. The same design, which is based on tested and certified components, can be used in new applications. Furthermore, it is possible to upgrade existing applications by making only minor infrastructural adjustments.
No modifications are necessary either to the control box or to the drive and connecting components when converting a ConiWitt-150 to a ConiWitt-150W. The milling head consists of the housing, drive, lip seal (which can be changed without opening the gearbox housing), sieve inserts with round or square openings, rasps, rotors, square rotor arms, safety prompt and Tri-Clamp.
