Proven to be effective in the field, the VLT Automation Drive from Danfoss provides dedicated predictive maintenance features for industrial applications. Condition monitoring for motor isolation and mechanical vibration using an external sensor, as well as load-envelope monitoring convert the AC drive into an intelligent sensor that detects issues at an early stage and reports them before they can lead to a standstill caused by the resulting damage. Condition monitoring for motor isolation can, for example, be relevant for motor applications where failures frequently occur, with the failure leading to time-consuming repairs and loss of revenue due to the production line being forced to a standstill. The mechanical vibration monitoring function helps to detect when motors are running unevenly due to improper setup or worn bearings, and can be useful when it comes to identifying mechanical issues at a very early stage. Load-envelope monitoring is a special function that enables a change in a fan’s load, e. g. excessive friction or increased resistance in the air flow due to clogged filters.
