Explosion-proof gear units and motors for use worldwide

Always on the safe side
The 4-pole motors in categories 2 and 3 are suitable for operation on a frequency inverter as well as in field weakening operation
Special preventive measures are required to operate machines and systems in areas where there is a risk of explosion. The motors and gear units from SEW-Eurodrive meet the requirements for equipment intended for use in hazardous areas.

SEW-Eurodrive gearmotors for use in hazardous areas meet the requirements of EU Directive 94/9/EC (Atex 95) and the international certification agreement IECEx. They will soon conform to the North American standard cCSAus (HazLoc-NA) as well. These motors and gearmotors are offered in IECEx according to equipment protection levels (EPL) Gb and Gc (gas protection) or Db and Dc (dust protection), and also as Atex-compliant drives in the 2G, 2GD, 3GD and 3D categories for zones 1/21 and 2/22. They are additionally available in the 3GD and 3D categories as brakemotors. The combined gas/dust approvals for the gearmotors simplify the selection process for the relevant drive components, reduce the number of variants and allow use in combined gas/dust zones.

Operation on a frequency inverter
The 4-pole motors in categories 2 and 3 (or EPL .b and .c) are suitable for operation on a frequency inverter as well as in field weakening operation. SEW motors and inverters are available as electrical equipment with protection types e (increased safety), nA (non-sparking) and tb and tc (dust explosion protection). The gear units intended as non-electrical equipment are certified with protection types c (design safety) and k (liquid immersion). The compact, performance-oriented properties of the standard drives are also incorporated in the explosion-proof motors, which are offered in various designs in the power range from 0.12 to 75 kW.
Decentralised, simple and compact
The D Movimot series of decentralised drives can be combined with the current DR motor series in several efficiency levels as standard. As with the above-mentioned standard drives, the compact and performance-oriented properties of these standard motors are also incorporated in the EDRx explosion-proof motors, which are offered in various designs.
Movimot D drives for category 3D in accordance with EU Directive 94/9/EC (Atex) or EPL Dc as per EN 60079–0 have 4-pole EDR motors that are suitable for operation with an integrated frequency inverter. The Movimot MM..D decentralised drive is available as electrical equipment with protection type tc (dust explosion protection) for use in zone 22. It represents yet another chapter in the Movimot C success story and is also downwards compatible with this series. The tried-and-tested combination of a gearmotor and digital frequency inverter is available in the form of explosion-proof drives for category 3D in the power range from 0.25 to 3 kW.
This decentralised drive complements the explosion-proof standard motors in the DR series. The drive automation specialist offers an extensive range of drive solutions for use in hazardous areas. They include various transport applications for the chemical and building material producing industries where potentially explosive dusts develop.
