Air technology with or without oil

Aerzener augments its range of compressors and canned motor blowers
Air technology with or without oil

Aerzener Maschinenfabrik has significantly extended its portfolio: whereas six new sizes have been added to its series of canned motor blowers, the company has completely revised its oil-injected compressors and now offers ten different variants. The Delta Twin series of oil-free screw compressor units also includes three new sizes.

The canned motor blowers made by Aerzener Maschinenfabrik have been extended with six additional sizes. The GM 5500 CM-C, GM 7500 CM-C, GM 8000 CM-C and GM 9500 CM-C types supplement the series with a theoretical intake volume of 5500 to 15,330 m³/h in the upper volume flow range. In addition, vacuum pumps with smaller motor sizes and a drive capacity from 11 to 14 kW are especially designed for continuous operation in process chambers. This application only requires lower mechanical load capacities of up to 40 mbar, which makes it possible to use smaller – and consequently more economical – canned motors. Another advantage is the reduction in the assembly dimensions of up to 280 mm, depending on the size.

The GM 2000 CM-CS and GM 2800 CM-CS sizes are likewise designed for continuous operation in process chambers. With a maximum speed of 100 Hz, these machine types achieve volume flows of 4000 or 5000 m³/h. Once again, the nominal motor rating has been reduced to 5.6 kW. This means not just lower costs for the canned motor blower but also further potential savings through the use of smaller frequency converters. Aerzener canned motor blowers cover nominal intake volume flows from 105 to 15,330 m³/h and pressure ranges up to 10-5 mbar absolute with a total of 14 sizes. They are ideal for use in industrial vacuum technology as well as for reactive gases.
The vacuum blowers, which are vacuum-tight, feature O-ring seals at the housing flanges and air cooling of the blower stage. An oil splash lubrication system is integrated.
Two different high-frequency motor ratings are possible, depending on the process. Motors with a load of 20 to 50 mbar are available for continuous operation, while motors with up to 150 bar can be realised for cyclic duty to facilitate shorter pumping periods.
Oil-injected compressors
The VMX series of screw compressors is targeted at manufacturers of movable and stationary air compressors, who make the accessories or the components for the plant – oil cooler, oil separator, base frame etc. – and complete them in-house. This series has been completely revised and now covers volume flows from 70 to 3200 m³/h as well as drive capacities from 15 to 355 kW with 10 sizes. The permissible differential pressures have been increased to 15 bar (single-stage) as standard and single-stage intake pressures up to 0.1 bar absolute achieved in vacuum operation.
The unit is driven either directly or by means of a belt drive. All compressor stages are also suitable for frequency converter operation. In addition, two gearbox versions with a choice of four standard ratios, delivering volume flows from 690 to 3200 m³/h and drive capacities from 75 to 355 kW, have been developed in the higher capacity range. The gearbox machines were designed for especially robust applications and offer a flexible direction of rotation – a great advantage, for instance, when using diesel engines.
The VMX series is particularly notable for its adapted screw profiles with larger diameters. Aerzener Maschinenfabrik has succeeded in translating the market trend towards slower-running screw compressors into action. A glance at the performance curves confirms that whereas the old VMX 0937 R model with a 22 kW drive and 10 bar differential pressure required a speed of 6300 min-1, this speed has been reduced to 3450 min-1 with the VMX 22 R without compromising performance. This prolongs the life of the bearings and simultaneously reduces lifecycle costs. At the same time, the sound level is much lower, so that with the innovative VMX compressors the costs for acoustic hoods and silencers in unit manufacturing are kept to a minimum.
Screw compressor series extended
With 10 sizes in total, the Delta Twin-series can now achieve volume flows from 500 to 3100 m³/h and differential pressures up to 10.5 bar. The screw compressor units, which are completely oil-free, are available in water or air-cooled versions. The possible drive capacity has been increased to 355 kW. Whereas the lower volume flow range up to 2000 m³/h and 200 kW motor rating is realised with a belt drive, the sizes for 250, 310 and 355 kW have a direct drive. The double-stage compressors are installed in a tandem configuration, in other words one behind the other and connected by two smaller gearbox couplings. This guarantees easy adaptability, optimal access to all components and simpler maintenance of the individual stages. These innovative units are additionally distinguished by a wide regulating range of 25 to 100 % and attractive customising options as regards materials and drives. Diesel engines can be used as an alternative to electric motors.
Special emphasis was placed during the development phase on matching the efficiency of the screw compressor – the heart of the units – each of which exists as a high and low-pressure stage, to user requirements for economical compressed-air production. Thanks to design modifications to the rotors and housings, the compressors are now an impressive 7 % more efficient than similar competitor machines. The potential saving is substantial, depending on electricity tariffs, the motor rating and the annual operating time of the compressed air unit.
The new Aerzener models feature an integrated frequency converter in the power cabinet (currently for 75 and 90 kW) that adapts to variations in compressed air consumption. This reduces the space requirement and eliminates costly connections. In future, complete solutions with an installed dryer will also be possible. The absorption dryer specially designed for the Delta Twin series boasts excellent efficiency, because the compressed air generated is treated without any reduction in capacity.
