Sandvik’s Rotoform 4G introduces a number of features of particular relevance to hygiene-critical applications, including easier cleaning, enhanced bearing seals and a lubrication-free drive belt option. The core process combines the Rotoform drop depositor with a steel belt cooler to create a granulation system that produces granules of highly uniform shape, stability and quality.
Typical process applications include the granulation of fatty acids and fatty alcohols used as ingredients in a broad range of pharmaceutical and cosmetic products. The benefit of solidifying the ingredients into free flowing pastilles of uniform size and shape is easier storage, transportation, dosing and mixing.
Cleaning of the drop depositor has been simplified due to the introduction of a pneumatically-actuated lifting device and new hood design, eliminating the need for operator intervention during shutdown. The Rotoform 4G also enables pneumatic control of the reefed bar, ensuring optimum product quality.
The introduction of bearing units with mechanical seals – with the availability of FDA-approved materials – is another important development in terms of system cleanliness.
