Chemically aggressive and contaminated process media dam-age the seals of sensor lock-gates and shorten the sensors’ lifespans. For such extreme applications, Knick provides Ceramat, a wear-free sensor lock-gate which dispenses with conventional O-ring seals. The pneumatically operated sensor lock-gate allows for automatic sensor maintenance and calibration under process conditions. Two rotating highly planar and extremely hard ceramic disks reliably seal the calibration chamber from the process. Thanks to the ceramic sealing and a non-moving housing made of carbon-reinforced PEEK, PVDF, or stainless steel 1.4571, Ceramat is suitable for use in highly corrosive and abrasive media and in media containing fibers and depositing solids. In the calibration chamber, the sensor is optimally cleansed through tangentially streaming rinsing solutions. Ceramat can be cleaned and sterilised with superheated steam. Moreover, the design features an additional rinsing cavity between housing and ceramic components ensuring perfect cleansing. Two Ceramat models are available, the inline version Ceramat WA 150 with 135 mm immersion depth and the extra-long Ceramat WA 160 with immersion depths up to 2,000 mm.
