ABB released the version 2013 of the distributed control system Freelance, known for its compact size and scalability. The core of Freelance Version 2013 is the controller AC 900F. Freelance is also compatible with existing controllers. Existing configurations, with a few exceptions such as the Foundation Fieldbus, are not interrupted and thus kept fully operational. The AC 900F provides more connectivity options, with four built-in Ethernet ports and two serial ports that support both Modbus TCP and IEC 60870-5-104 telecontrol protocols on Ethernet. A powerful Profibus master module includes line redundancy and enables high availability with no single point of failure in this typical application area. A single AC 900F controller supports up to 1500 I/O and up to 10 direct I/O modules.
