The Palas U-SMPS (Universal scanning mobility particle sizer) measures continuously and time resolved particle size distributions of ultra-fine and nanoparticles. Important fields of application of the U-SMPS are workplace and environmental measurements, filter testing as well as medical research. It consists of a particle counter – for example the high-performance condensation particle counter UF-CPC or the highly sensitive reference aerosol electrometer Charme – and of a size classifier (DEMC or DMA). The Palas size classifier enables a fast, continuous and high-resolved classification of the aerosol according to its particle size. The user can freely choose the classifying size range within the total size range (3 nm to 1.2 μm) and the number of the size classes (for example 64/decade). The U-SMPS is typically operated through a graphical user interface on a large touchscreen. The evaluation software provides sophisticated data evaluation (extensive sta-tistics and averaging) and export possibilities. The device is typically operated stand-alone but can also be connected to a computer or network by several interfaces (USB, WLAN, Ethernet, RS232/485).
