One for all – all for one

Plug & play for sensors and modules
One for all – all for one

Uniformity is the central focus of the new analytical platform offered by Endress+Hauser Conducta. By giving similar features an identical layout, users benefit from a high degree of flexibility and product simplicity. The Liquiline M CM442 multi-parameter controller is the heart of this platform and the key to achieving this goal.

Jessica Nentwich

As the basis of the new analytical platform, special hardware and software are used both in the controller and in the new stationary and portable samplers. This offers customers numerous benefits:
  • The devices in the platform have a stand-ardised operating concept, thereby maximising operating reliability and ensuring rapid navigation through the menus.
  • Lower, more cost-effective inventories are achieved thanks to identical sensors and cables as well as identical hardware modules for controllers and samplers.
  • Last but not least, all the components speak the same language: Memosens. The extremely robust inductive connection, which is able to withstand external environmental factors, in combination with the digital protocol guarantees reliable, comprehensive data transmission and an easy-to-use system.
The Liquiline M CM442 4-wire transmitter can currently measure eight different parameters: pH (glass, Isfet or ceramic technology), ORP, conductive or inductive conductivity, turbidity, nitrate, dissolved oxygen, chlorine and SAC (spectral absorption coefficient). This portfolio will be extended in the future to include ion-selective electrodes (ISE) that can be used for the simultaneous measurement of ammonium, nitrate and pH.
Any combination of two sensors can be connected, with up to eight sensors pos-sible in the maximum instrument configuration. In this way, customers need fewer transmitters to operate their measuring points and can thus significantly reduce maintenance costs. Mechanical components boasting a simple but sophisticated design, such as the post retainer for round or square pipes (20 to 61 mm) or the practical and flexible Flexdip assembly, are always a perfect fit and round off the prod-uct offerings for a complete and fully harmonised measuring point.
Convenient operation
The Liquiline M CM442 boasts a back-lit, high-contrast graphic display. Both the large, plain-text measured value reading and the red background that appears in the event of an alarm are visible from a distance, thereby further improving process safety. In addition, the clear and simple instructions to be followed if an error occurs ensure rapid, concerted troubleshooting, which in turn helps increase measuring point availability.
Supported by four softkeys, the time-tested jog/shuttle dial enables swift navigation through the software menu, which is initially available in eight different languages (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch and Chinese). These manifold features provide a one-of-a-kind solution for maximum operating reliability. The optional SD card also offers users several handy functions. For example, a backup copy of the customised configuration settings can be saved to the card and quickly transferred to other instruments. Furthermore, software updates can be e-mailed to customers, who can then save the update to the SD card and install it easily on their equipment.
Modular hardware concept
Users can choose from two power unit modules, each featuring two Memosens inputs for digital sensors, an SD slot, alarm relays and two current outputs consolidated in one module. Another optional module provides two additional relays that can be used for cleaning, for instance, as well as two current outputs that can communicate supplementary measured values (temperature, raw measured value, etc.) to the process control system.
If the equipment configuration is extended to maximum at a later stage, users can choose from up to eight Memosens inputs, a corresponding number of relays and current outputs, a controller module, Profibus PA and DP, Foundation Fieldbus, Modbus, Ethernet, WLAN and GPRS. Widening the scope and changing the functions are incredibly straightforward: simply order the new module, then insert and connect it, and all the new functions are available at your fingertips. The smart software detects the modules and the associated functions automatically. Moreover, the flat structure of the operating menu ensures swift and intuitive navigation to any point in the menu with just a few clicks. As similar menus have the same layout, users become familiar with the software in a matter of minutes. For example, the structure parameter menus for pH, conductivity and turbidity are identical on every platform. The same also applies to the outputs.
Furthermore, the rugged plastic housing offering either IP66 or IP67 protection is absolutely impermeable to dust and liquid, whether in the form of a spray jet or a 1 m water column.
Digital signal transmission
Any combination of sensors can be connected and communicate with the controller using the Memosens protocol, which has been time-tested in over 150,000 sensors worldwide. This digital technology makes it possible to save extensive information in the sensor head. Operation is additionally simplified as a result, since this data is automatically read and processed by the controller. The sensors can be pre-calibrated in a dry and warm laboratory, and then merely have to be integrated into the system. This makes problematic calibration in hard-to-reach areas under tough weather conditions a thing of the past, and maximises measuring availability and staff safety.
Users also no longer need to worry about moisture ingress or any resulting corrosion or salt bridges. Thanks to the inductive signal transmission principle, moisture does not stand a chance – either in fixed cable sensors using the Memosens protocol (turbidity, nitrate, oxygen (amperometic) or conductivity (inductive)) or in sensors featuring the patented Memosens connector. The measured values are reliably transmitted non-stop to the transmitter, thereby further improving process safety and reliability.
