The electro-pneumatic automation system FreeLine 8645 from Bürkert needs no control cabinet and yet still works with a higher protection class. FreeLine 8645 automates complex process and production sequences in hostile industrial and process environments with protection class IP 65/IP 67. Electronic and pneumatic mod-ules can be freely combined on a modular basis depending on the requirement. Whereas previous systems were constructed in electronic and pneumatic blocks, in the case of the modular FreeLine, the fluids are also carried through the electronic modules. In addition, the electrical feedback inputs are integrated into the pneumatic modules and the function modules are standardised for all electrical control variants: FreeLine can be controlled both with the common field bus protocols as well as via a multi-pole module. With the help of intermediate supply modules, this enables the existing 32 connections to be extended in each case by 16 additional input and output lines. Thanks to the fine granularity and the variable combination possibilities, any desired system tasks can be solved. For example water treatment: The pneumatic outputs control single-action or double-action process valves and cylinders with or without position feedback signals. The positions of the actuators can be interrogated via digital inputs. Sensors supply analog values that can likewise be recorded via the corresponding analog modules.
