Carbonized contaminated equipment accessories in cracking and fission ovens cannot be repaired except with great difficulty if standard procedures are used. The welding procedure, gierull welding, makes it possible to save as much as 70 % of the time required to repair the carburized equipment accessories. Time-consuming and highly complicated procedures involving considerable amount of work such melting test, surface crack detection, overlay welding, solution annealing are all unnecessary as a result of the gierull-welding process. Already used material is processed and re-used. The costs of materials are thus reduced and there is also no longer a sometimes lengthy waiting period waiting for spare parts. The availability and the capacity of a production plant can be quite considerably increased as a result.
