Reliable online analysis minimises operating costs

Protecting water quality
Online analysers guarantee efficient process monitoring and control. A high level of measuring point availability and the lowest possible operating costs are of major importance in this context. Both the analysers and the interfaces to the control systems have now been further optimised to achieve this end. High-performance software tools such as the Common Equipment Record and the W@M Portal support the user throughout the entire product life cycle.
Process analysers are often used to safeguard resources such as drinking water, protect the environment and streamline production processes. A high level of measuring point availability is the most important customer requirement for these tasks. This has been realised through the use of automatic calibration and cleaning functions that guarantee reliable operation. In addition, the modular device architecture consisting of high-grade, easily replaced components makes inventory management easier and ensures the service team’s ability to respond fast.
The established Liquiline transmitter has now been integrated in the analyser platform. This means that plant staff can benefit from the same user friendly operation already familiar from other analysis parameters such as pH or conductivity. The analysers can be readily extended to form a measuring station – owing, once again, to the platform concept: all that needs to be done is to connect Memosens sensors. Memosens technology also permits sample processing to be controlled entirely using the Liquiline system analyser and thus saves time during commissioning and operation.
This year, Endress+Hauser will introduce more of the Liquiline CA80 analyser platform’s parameters into the market, starting with nitrite and chromate in drinking water. Iron and aluminium – also for drinking water resources – are pending. COD and total phosphorus round off the portfolio in the wastewater sector. Additional parameters are planned.
Quick and precise
Liquiline System CA80 analysers are based on standardised, colorimetric measuring principles which are also used in the laboratory. This means that plant owners and operators are guaranteed high-precision measurements at all critical control points in the facility. Compared with laboratory measurements the online analyser nevertheless delivers the current process value much faster, thereby enabling a fast response to varying substance concentrations. The system’s limit monitoring function helps minimise the discharge values and provide the required documentation to the water authorities.
Endress+Hauser offers suitable sample preparation systems for every critical control point of the parameters offered. Liquiline System CAT860 is well adapted to the harsh conditions in the inlet of a sewage treatment plant. The automatic backflushing function with cleaning solution and compressed air prevents the ceramic filter from becoming blocked. Liquiline System CAT820 is a flexible solution for the aeration basin or the outlet, for example. It can be perfectly tailored to the sampling situation thanks to the various filter holder systems and optional compressed air cleaning. Liquiline System CAT810 is a cost-effective alternative for preparing samples in the outlet or from pressurised pipes. It reflects process changes promptly and shortens the response time of downstream measuring devices. Most Liquiline system analysers are available in a self-priming version for drinking water treatment. This version detects process changes and is operational immediately without separate sample preparation.
Device management and optimisation
The Endress+Hauser Common Equipment Record (CER) allows users to document and assess all the data for one measuring device. In addition to actual device data such as the order code, serial number, software version, approvals etc., it is also possible to save historical information. Software and hardware upgrades, conversions, servicing activities and modifications of all kinds can be documented and assessed in this way. Identical measuring points can thus be ordered at any time. At the same time, the CER provides a good overview of maintenance, spare parts and any other costs associated with the upkeep of the installed devices.
Life cycle management
Endress+Hauser’s W@M Portal enables the measuring technology of entire process plants to be managed and optimised efficiently. It can be operated locally on a corporate server or in a cloud provided by Endress+Hauser. The W@M Portal includes data on individual devices, servicing activities, availability and the technical documentation of the installed base. It generates process criticality analyses and identifies a need for repair before it gets too late. Specific, vital spare parts can be stored and service assignments planned based on this information. Endress+Hauser carries out an Installed Base Audit in conjunction with the W@M Portal. All devices are registered and evaluated according to their importance for the process together with the cost and risk of any maintenance work. Customers profit from a comprehensive overview of their instrumentation and are able to identify in detail the potential for optimisation and savings.
