By being quickly frozen under controlled conditions with liquid nitrogen, delicate biological or pharmaceutical solutions such as vaccination serums and protein solutions can be stored and transported for long periods of time and without any mentionable loss of activity in a safe and stable manner. With Messer’s patented pelletizer, pharmaceutical products can be formed into fine pellets. The advantages offered by this are the short freezing time of the product in liquid nitrogen, as well as the economical use of cold nitrogen gas. The pelletizer pharmaceutical vessel from Messer also allows pelletizing in accordance with GMP guidelines.
In this vessel, batches of pharmaceutical solutions are solidified and frozen into pellets in a turbulent immersion bath. Anywhere from 10 to 200 kg of product can be processed per batch. The pelletizer pharma vessel operates without any moving parts such as an agitating shaft. The turbulance created in the immersion bath ensures the separation of the pellets. After the vaporisation of the liquid nitrogen, the pellets are emptied from the pharmaceutical vessel by a pneumatically controlled dumping mechanism and poured into an insulated collecting vessel.
