Contrary to other filter media, wire meshes offer the opportu-nity for exact pre-determination of pore sizes and permeability, because the specific properties of a woven mesh may be precisely described geometrically. They are defined through the type of weave, the wire diameters and the mesh count. The mathematical formulae for calculating pore sizes and permeability were developed by Haver & Boecker in cooperation with the University of Stuttgart. Experimental validation was achieved by tests with glass beads and measurements of air flow rates. Based on these calculations, the Minimesh S metal filter cloth generation was developed. These media are available in a large range of pore sizes. Furthermore filter weave structures with improved properties will be presented. In detail, the media are characterised by precision pores, higher flow rates and cut-points, higher energy efficiency and longer service life.
