The hybrid dry recooler is an interesting alternative to other, closed cooling systems. It is used as a liquid cooler or as a condenser, e.g. for NH3. It has long been known that the performance of an air-cooled heat exchanger can be considerably improved by wetting the heat exchanger surface, e.g. by spraying. This resulted in the idea of the hybrid dry recooler. Through the interaction of evaporation and convection, not only a large quantity of heat is dissipated, but a lower cooling water temperature can also be achieved. As a result, the hybrid dry cooler is a device that combines the advantages of dry cooling with those of evaporation cooling.
