With the high pressure seal ESD66H, ESD has succeeded in improving the safety barrier that guarantees low product leakage. Where damage to the pair of seal rings in a double acting mechanical seal can lead to the loss of pressure and leakage, the ESD66H avoids this deficit as it is equipped with three seal rings pairs and two seal chambers. In the first seal chamber a pressure barrier is created with help of the pres-sure compensator VD120 with a pressure which lies slightly above that of the vessel. In the second seal chamber the pres-sure splitting device VD120PS reduces the pressure of the first seal chamber in half. This gradual pressure drop protects the seal rings between the chambers and significantly improves their life-time. Thus the high pressure seal is of great interest for all users in the process industry that work with pres-sures of up to 200 bar and with highly explosive and toxic media such as in the hydrogen processes.
