For high temperatures

Pressure transmitters with intelligent operating and device concept
For high temperatures

The sector-oriented evolution of the pressure transmitters and differential pressure transmitters Cerabar S and Deltabar S with its comprehensive safety package and the intelligent operating and device concept offers countless technological innovations in the high-end segment of pressure measurement. The high-temperature version of the Cerabar S with metal diaphragm allows for quick and direct installation at the process connection up to 280 °C without a diaphragm seal.

Pressure sensors ensure not only safety in pipes and tanks in many sectors of the chemicals and pharmaceuticals industry, they also deliver important data about the process. In many cases, people revert to pressure and differential pressure measuring technology, even for level and flow measurement.

Many improvements have been made to the pressure transmitters Cerabar S and Deltabar S, guaranteeing the process user a high standard of functionality, information and safety. In this way, the integrated data mod-ule HistoROM enables, for example, the acquisition, storage and reading out of all important process and device parameters. The device configurations can be duplicated on other measuring devices by simply plugging in the module. Analyses, simulations and interrogation of the service parameters can be carried out at any time via the diagnostic functions of the Cerabar S and Deltabar S software and thus guarantee the best possible adaptation to the process.
The ceramic measuring cell Ceraphire is made of Al2O3 with a purity of 99.9 % and is extremely resistant. It is self-cleaning and very reliable, even in aggressive process environments.
Cerabar S and Deltabar S are inspected and manufactured according to IEC61508 SIL (Safety Integrity Level). This is essential for meeting the high requirements of the process industry.
Operation with concept
The three-key operation offers high functional safety thanks to its easy and quick commissioning. All settings and interrogations can be executed conveniently on the outside of the measuring device and therefore without having to reach into it and without the need for additional aids. The operating concept (Hall-Sensor-Principle) guarantees very good protection against environmental influences. By means of the selection options between pressure, level or flow measurement, only the relevant menu structures are displayed.
Using the Quick-Setup menu reduces the time required for device configuration to a minimum, so that the user can achieve his aim quickly and reliably. The large four-line graphic display ensures clarity. Different languages can be selected in the menu, such as German, English, French, Spanish, Italian and Dutch. Since the housing can be rotated by 380°, independent of the process connection, the pressure transmitter adapts accurately to any process environment. This makes the installation of the device easier, the device can be better operated and the display can be read without any problems. Complicated installation constructions are not necessary.
High temperatures easily under control
A crucial objective of the further development of the Cerabar S was to make it possible to measure reliably and safely at high process temperatures – but without significantly extending the application of the typical diaphragm seal and, in line with this, the known commercially available operating limits. The high-temperature version of the Cerabar S with metal diaphragm allows for quick and direct installation at the process connection up to 280 °C without a diaphragm seal. In the new version, especially small measuring ranges can be acquired with significantly smaller process connections. In addition to this, the process temperature limits for the ceramic designs are extended to a continuous temperature of 150 °C. This allows for shorter installation times, less components, lower costs and additional safety thanks to improved conduction.

Greater accuracy, more safety

cpp: You have further developed your pressure and differential pressure measuring devices in numerous points and implemented important new features. What are the most significant improvements compared to the predecessor models in your opinion?
Philipps: The high-temperature versions that can withstand up to 280 °C without a diaphragm seal are a very significant improvement. The advantage for the user lies in the considerably greater accuracy, which could previously not be achieved in this way. We also carefully considered the theme of safety. The Cerabar S and Deltabar S devices fulfil SIL2 and are for the first time developed according to IEC 61508. In addition to this, we have installed a second barrier for the fluid, so that no hazardous substances can penetrate into the electronics housing, even if the diaphragm breaks. And last but not least, the operation of the devices is easier and more reliably structured. The devices can be configured using the keys on site. User guidance via a text menu and the plausibility check of inputs also help to prevent errors. Necessary basic settings are summarised in a Quick-Setup menu. In this way, you just have to carry out a few steps and the devices are ready for operation.
cpp: You have Cerabar S and Deltabar S in use worldwide in hundreds of thousands of applications. How do you intend to convince the users to change to the new device generation?
Philipps: In addition to the technical improvements already mentioned, we offer a complete range of additional services. In the area of Asset Management, I would like to bring particular attention to the FieldCare tool. Cerabar S and Deltabar S deliver important and necessary data for monitoring the measuring chain and save it in a HistoROM replaceable memory module from which it can be called up at any time. All in all, it is worth upgrading not only because of the scope of the innovations, which are based on specific requests we have re-ceived from our customers, but above all also because the latest worldwide safety standards have been implemented. Of course, the devices are completely compatible with the current series.
cpp: For which applications are the Cerabar S and Deltabar S measuring devices particularly suitable?
Philipps: Cerabar S and Deltabar S meet the requirements of the chemicals, petrochemicals, oil & gas, energy and power plant sectors. The catalogue of requirements for further development of our current series has been produced together with the users from these sectors and from the experience gathered from the installed basis over the past 20 years. The modular construction was also developed on this basis, which offers the user a device that is tailored to the particular application.
cpp: A completely new assembly line was built in Maulburg for the production of the new device generation. What factors were taken into particular consideration when doing this?
Philipps: Quality and delivery time have absolute priority. With the new assembly line, we are able to control the diversity of the device versions logistically and simultaneously offer deliveries within a day in our „QIQ“ system. For this, we have invested considerably in new systems and their data-technical integration into the delivery process chain.
