Central to HB-Feinmechanik’s installations for compounding, mixing and reaction processes are single and twinscrew extruders which operate as self-contained reactors. Utilizing mechanical shear forces in conjunction with pressure and heat, they permit the controlled processing of a diversity of materials.
The extruders are equipped with segmented screws. The modular, interchangeable screw segments, of which there are as many as twelve different families available, permit flexible adaptation of the screw to different materials and applications. The optimum configuration of the extrusion line is ascertained by means of trials performed with original materials in a pilot plant. The extruder barrel is divided into separately heatable or coolable sections corresponding to the screw segments. A central control system, which is programmable via a computer interface or the touchscreen terminal of the machine, monitors the temperatures and all other process parameters, e.g. screw speed, working pressure and extruder output.
