Isartherm-Flex-KIN is a universal stuffing box packing for high-pressure and high-temperature valves which has been developed by Burgmann Industries. It is made of expanded graphite foil, reinforced with an Inconel core for greater stability under pressure, and also has a corrosion inhibitor for the prevention of corrosion on the spindle. The packing has outstanding elasticity, provides for low-stress on the shaft, and has a high cross-sectional density and high structural strength. The Isartherm-Flex-KIN is physiologically safe; chemical stability is in the pH range of 0 to 14. This packing is particularly suitable for use in refineries, the petrochemicals industry and in power stations.
The operating limits for application in high-pressure and high-temperature valves are a maximum of 500 bar for operating pressure and 2 m/s for the sliding velocity. In all applications the packing will withstand temperatures of -50 to +500 °C (550 °C in the case of steam).
