If the requirements are low frictional losses, maintenance-free units, high speeds, freedom from lubricants and hydrocarbons, hermetic sealing, sterility and noncontact processing, the Leviplex 100 UPZ fine impact mill with magnetic bearing assembly opens up important prospects. The hermetic separation of product and technical zone reliably prevents contamination of the product and also ensures that no valuable particles go astray. The magnetic bearing assembly needs no lubricants, makes wear parts such as ball-bearings and shaft lip seals superfluous and permits high speeds of up to 28 000 rpm, and furthermore runs smoothly and quietly without generating any frictional heat. This makes Leviplex ideal for processing heat-sensitive products. The mill can be cleaned or sterilised quickly: the housing is simply pivoted off to the side and the grinding elements pulled completely out of the machine. Another advantage is the flexible process control – both bearing features and rotor behaviour can be altered at any time. Parameters such as smoothness of running, speed, torque and temperature are monitored constantly and can be read out from the control unit without the need for any other measuring instrumentation.
